There are two particularly important substances — collagen and hyaluronic acid — that play important roles in keeping facial skin looking smooth and supple. Collagen is a protein that provides skin with structural support, while hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar found in all living cells that attracts and binds water, hydrating the skin and giving it volume.
As the skin ages and is exposed to environmental pollutants and ultraviolet rays, collagen and hyaluronic acid in the skin diminish, the skin loses structure and volume, and unwelcome lines and wrinkles appear, like those "parentheses" lines around your nose and mouth.
Other lines, like glabellar lines (the vertical frown lines between the eyebrows which often look like the number "11"), are formed by repeated and involuntary contraction of the muscles between the eyebrows. As the skin becomes less elastic, excessive contraction of these muscles may cause visible, deep wrinkles between the eyebrows to form, even when the face is relaxed. Frown lines can have a negative effect on one's overall facial appearance by creating a sad, angry, or tired impression.

XEOMIN® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults younger than 65 years of age for a short period of time (temporary).
XEOMIN® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) should only be administered by a licensed health care professional like Dr. Barbour, who is well trained in the anatomy of the face.

BELOTERO® is the first and only smooth consistency gel formulation, and the only HA dermal filler developed using the proprietary HYLACROSS™ technology, a technologically advanced manufacturing process that results in a malleable, smooth gel. BELOTERO® flows easily into the skin and creates a smooth, natural look and feel. All other HA dermal fillers currently on the market have a granular consistency gel. These granules can be seen under 2.4X magnification as opposed to the smooth consistency gel of BELOTERO® dermal filler. BELOTERO® dermal filler is biodegradable and has demonstrated its safety and effectiveness in patients of color. Studies with BELOTERO® demonstrated no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in patients of color.
